In Case You Were Wondering
Good afternoon gay and lesbian community.
I thought I'd take this opportunity to tell you about a small, yet exciting new support group that has been developed for gay families and gay family supporters in this area.
Proud Familes Parkersburg (PFP) was the brainchild of Jen and I after we realized this summer that there is not a whole lot for gay families to do together.
We both have two children each and really have an interest in being able to do things that are family-oriented with our children along with other gay families.
Yes, we go to the local pride events and have even travelled as far as Charleston to attend pride functions with our children. But the truth is, there aren't a whole lot of Gay Pride things we can do with our children that are acceptable things to take them to.
So thats when we came up with www.myspace.com/proudfamiliesparkersburg. On this site you can add us as your friend and we can start organizing family functions together!
Our hopes are to have picnics, parties, game nights, etc. in which we can include our children.
We also hope to be able to share with other families the issues that our family is dealing with inside and outside of court with our exes. We want to be able to share our thoughts and ideas on how to make our children's lives better today and into the future.
Right now we don't have a whole lot of members, but we are working hard to get new blood into our group.
We are not asking for financial backing. We know and understand that now isn't a good time for families to open up their checkbooks. We are just looking for people who want to join us. Please go to our myspace site and add us as your friend!
In the next week or so we (our families) will be making Easter candy to sell to the community help raise money for our group. Items will range in price from 25 cents to $5.00. If you'd like to make a purchase, we can certainly use he support!
