To some their beautiful-ugly is their very thick and curly hair. Some spend countless hours doing everything possible to give it a straight, thin appearance. Ionic hairdryers, Chemicals, and even Flat irons. Cabinets full of ridiculously expensive hair products, all purchased in the hopes that they could make their out-of-control curls lay perfectly flat. I think everyone has one “thing” they’ll always splurge on, without ever looking at the price tag. For them, it’s hair products.
I am sure when they were little, they would always hear people say what beautiful hair they had or how gorgeous their curls were. Those with red locks even hated it more. Often retorting with “no, my hair is strawberry-blonde.” When they started blowing their hair out straight in 7th grade, their parents would always beg them to let it air dry. They for some ungodly reason thought the curls were beautiful. While others would try to cut half the hair off in an attempt to thin it out. I'm guessing they agreed with the logic: The hair is ugly.
A few years ago, my grandma had a cyst removed from her breast. It was an in-office procedure, but it left her bloody, very bandaged up and feeling really unattractive. To a much lesser degree, at that moment I could sympathize with the way my grandma felt after her breast reconstruction surgery. I cried as I left the doctor’s office that day.So, after she got out of the office, we took her to get her hair straightened out, so that she could again feel beautiful.
No doubt they will grow old, struggling with a blow dryer in one hand and a cane in the other one day. Maybe then I’ll think that my hair is beautiful.
